It’s Your Loss, Allen and Ginter

Even though the 2012 Allen & Ginter checklist has been known for a while now, I come to you today  still in stunned disbelief that  my campaign to get George Will on an Allen and Ginter card did not bear fruit.  I spent a whole 20 minutes creating a little “George Will for Allen & Ginter” campaign sign, posting it on my blog, sending a few of my business cards out to other bloggers with said sign on the back, creating a “George Will For Allen and Ginter” Facebook page (ahem- which only 1 person liked) and then taking a step back to watch the magic happen.  And…. Nothing.  If I’m not going to be rewarded for this kind of effort, then I truly am afraid of where this country is heading.  Thanks a lot, Obamacare.

I should take my damn ball and go home, but dammit, getting Mr. Will a baseball card just means too damn much to me, dammit.

Between getting this from dayf and my gen-u-wine autograph from Mr. Will,

my project had some high points.




I’m going to collect my thoughts, decide on a new campaign strategy, and come out on fire.

GWAG12 Update

My recent travel slowed any momentum I had for my George Will for Allen and Ginter 2012 campaign.  Aside from sending a few cards with trade packages, I hadn't done jack the past week in this endeavor.  However, last night I did set up a GeorgeWill for Allen and Ginter page on Facebook, which will be interesting to watch, along with my own personal profile (Napkin Doon).  I put a post on George Will’s Facebook page, as well as Topps's.  It will be interesting to see if anyone checks it out, or assumes it is some spam garbage.

My Mission: George Will for Allen & Ginter 2012!

Writing this blog has been one of the most rewarding hobbies I’ve ever undertaken.  It has enhanced my love of baseball cards tenfold and has been a wonderful creative outlet.   However, there is a tiny part of me that has still been searching for some more meaningful reason to continue this new endeavor of mine and I haven’t been able to put my finger on it.  Until today.  I have realized a new goal for of this blog with crystal clarity:  Help get George Will on an Allen & Ginter card.  The fact that he has not been on a card yet befuddles and irritates me.   Why George Will?  I say, "Why Not?."  His baseball relevance resume:

• Bestselling author of two books about baseball:  Men at Work: The Craft of Baseball; and Bunts 
•  Member of MLB’s Special Committee for on field matters
• Lifelong suffering Cubs fan
• Briefly held position of Commissioner of the Texas/Louisiana independent baseball league (I was a big Lubbock Crickets fan myself)

If I can somehow use this blog to help influence Topps into issuing a card of him in a future Allen and Ginter set, then I will be most satisfied.  Allen and Ginter is the perfect, and really only choice for a card of George Will.  If Regis deserves a card in this set, so does George Will.  And I would love to see an autograph card offered, as well as a relic card of one of his bowties.

This is my mission.  I don’t really know how to make it happen yet, but I am open to ideas.  I’ll start with this post, and perhaps a letter to Topps.  Any other suggestions?
