Checklist Chipaway: 2011 Gypsy Queen Green Border

I’m happy to say I won’t be ending my blog without at least one really good set realizing completion. 

With this Stan Musial card, I’ve wrapped up the 100 card parallel Green Paper Frame set from 2011 Gypsy Queen.   There’s a lot I love about this set:  The checklist is chock full of great names, the pictures are beautiful, and I like the design of the card and the feel of the green paper border. 

I also like that these were only available in retail rack packs, and there were 3 cards per pack.  So a fella would have to open at least 34 rack packs (at $10 a pack mind you) and hope for no doubles to build one of these sets.  Of course, that’s not how I built this set, but I like to think about things like that.

I didn’t collect the minis or relics/autos from 2011 GQ, but got everything else.  It makes a really nice binder to look through in its completed form.

Checklist Chipaway: 2011 Gypsy Queen Base Done!

These were the last four cards I needed to complete the base section of my 2011 Gypsy Queen semi-master set.  I say "semi master" because I am not building the mini parallel set, and I'm not chasing the SPs.  Why not?  Because I don't have to.  I am collecting the green paper framed parallel set and only need a handful more those.  But otherwise, I'm putting 2011 GQ to bed. 

James from Unabashed Interest was kind enough to send the final needed cards my way.  It's a great feeling to tuck that last card into the last open slot in the binder and see no more holes in the pages.  Thanks to James and everyone else who helped me wrap up this set.  It's a beautiful product to look at in the binder!

 

Gypsy, Gypsy Green.... If You Know What I Mean

I made small but important progress on my quest to complete a 2011 Gypsy Queen Green Framed Paper set this week, one card courtesy of eBay, the other courtesy of everyone's favorite Night Owl:

I'm always a little surprised when someone gives up a card of who I assume is one of their favorite players.  I'm sure this is a double, and Night Owl has another one of these safely tucked away somewhere, but still, it was very cool to get a nice Dodger card from a Dodger fan and collector.

I also grabbed a Mickey Mantle on eBay:

I wouldn't say I got a steal on it, but it was cheaper than any others I'd seen yet so I made the purchase.

My Master Checklist now has this set ranked as my number one priority.  I only need 7 more cards, and I'm going to target this September 1 as my completion date.

Brother, Can You Spare Some 2011 Gypsy Queen?

I'm back to panhandling for cards again.  I guess it's not panhandling if I'm offering something in return.
