Hoopin It Up With Royals And Randoms

I'm not a huge basketball fan, especially with Razorback basketball being so pedestrian the past 10+ years.  Bu that didn't stop me from jumping on an offer for cards at Royals and Randoms a few weeks ago.  I claimed the Joe Johnson's Josh was offering because Johnson is a former Razorback, and I claimed the Michael Jordan's because it was Michael Jordan.  See here:

There are still other cards available.   If you guys don't pounce on them, I may go back for seconds.  There was somebody named Lebron that I would be happy to take.  Thanks for the cool stuff Josh, and I've got some Royals headed your way!

On The 10th Day of Brycemas

#10 Texas Rangers DH, 1B, 2B, 3B and SS, Michael Young.
Winner.  Team Player.  Leader.  Hustle. Work Ethic.  Integrity.  Luscious.   But enough about me, let’s look at some Michael Young Cards:

I have one of those “jersey” T-Shirts of Michael Young, and that’s as close to a jersey I will wear of any team or player.  I’ve got nothing against fans wearing jerseys, especially to games.  I just can’t pull it off.  It doesn’t look or feel right on me.  I wish my lovely wife would wear one though.  That would be so, so, so hot.

On The 8th Day of Brycemas

8 Cards of Big Shots
Here is a conversation I can see happening down the road with my son:
Son:  Dad, who was the greatest athlete of all while you were growing up?
Me:  That’s easy.  Michael Jordan.  He might be the greatest athlete of all time.
Son:  How many cards of him do you have?
Me:  Um, none actually.
Son (Looks over my paltry basketball card collection):  Was Todd Day better than Michael Jordan?  And who’s Oliver Miller?
Me:  Well, they were Razorbacks,  son, and that’s why I have them.   But no, no they were not better.
Son:  You have about 30 cards of those guys.  But you don’t have one Michael Jordan?
Me:  Uhhhh

Son:  Who was the best football player?
Me:  I don’t’ know.  Tom Brady was pretty amazing.  And he married Giselle.
Son:  Who?
Me:  Never mind.
Son:  How many of his cards do you have?
Me:  Uhhhh
Well, now I at least have a few of both of these guys, although in my defense, their cards can get pricy.  However, there are always good deals to be found on the internet, and I finally have some cards of His Airness and Brady.    Yes, these are pretty standard cards, but I’m proud of them all the same (and I did get multiples of many of these).

Card Show Loot Part 2

I still can't figure out why I bought this:
1989 Donruss.  PSA 8.  For crying out loud Napkin! The worst part was, after I bought it, the dealer really started working me.  I'm sure he couldn't believe the luck of having a total sucker right in front of him.  Perhaps if I had said, "Sir, perhaps you do not know who you are dealing with.  It is I, Napkin Doon, in the flesh." Well, he would have realized he was overmatched and quit while he was ahead with the Biggio card.

Dammit, I can't believe I bought that card!  Maybe it's like when you decide to get a dog, you go to the shelter with intentions of coming home with a beautiful pure bred.  But you get there, and it's the sad little mutt that steals your heart and you can't resist him.  I've never owned a dog, but I assume that happens to some people.  So, looking back, perhaps that is what I... dammit I just can't believe I bought that card.  And I announced it to the world (or a handful of readers anyway) on my blog like a total jack leg.  Maybe I should put an scan of it on the sidebar of my blog and let it brand me like a scarlet letter so the blogging world knows my shame.

Moving on...  I was pleased with these $1 GU cards:

I normally wouldn't have bought the Prior card, but the little 59 on the jersey swatch caught my attention. I have no idea what it is, but it made the card pretty interesting.  I'm open to trading these by the way.

Perhaps my favorite part of card shows is scrounging through the dime/quarter boxes for bargains.  Here are my nabs:

A little addition to my side project of building a small collection of basketball cards.  I don't know anything about the Jordan UD card, but there were 10 of them and I got them all.  At a dime a peice, I figured what the heck.

I also added some cool Piazzas for my PC.  I only got the Canseco "Bowman's Best Selections" because it was die cut and I thought it looked cool and wanted to use it as reminder to look for other cards in the set.   Turns out, it is part of a 15 card insert set from 2000 Bowman's Best.  And after a quick look at sportlots.com and COMC,  I see these cards are relatively expensive!  So score one for the dime boxes!
