Yesterday I teased a more thorough post covering this album I picked up for $5 at last week’s auction at Cleve’s:
I didn’t mean to over hype it, and I’ll tell you now there weren’t any super big cards, but man this was worth every of the 500 pennies I paid for it. The side label is mostly accurate- the players were by and large M-Q last names. It will take a little cleaning up and sorting, but this thing produced a ton of cards for my collection and several for my sampler album. Lots of Hall of Famers. Lots of ’85 Topps.
First step will be to throw away the binder itself. I appreciate the effort and the colorful stickers, but…. no. And please ignore the snowman table cloth. We put that thing down for the Holidays and decided to just leave it be since our kids use this table often for coloring and crafts.
So let's get to it, here are the pages, all 60+ of them, nice and spread out. I think it's a beautiful sight, don't you?
No way am I able to go through everything, but here are some of the highlights.
I think the Mattingly collection is my favorite. Love all the ’85 and ’86 Topps. Keep in mind, that these pages are loaded front and back, so there are tons other cards I was too lazy to photograph, much less scan.
Tug McGraw and Gaylord Perry
Dale Murphy
Joe Morgan
Jack Morris
Eddie Murray
Oops, Gaylord Perry again, and Jim Palmer. I hardly have any Palmers, so this was a welcome addition.
Kirby Puckett
Many of these pages will pop
right into my albums nice and easy. I’ll
dig some cards out of the pages and put in my semi star boxes.
I’ve probably got a couple dozen or so cards here that will make their
way into the sampler album. I’m thinking I could really goose up my
Listia account with this stuff too, if I’m feeling up to the effort.Of course, pretty much any of this is up for trade. As you can tell, there are several doubles, triples, quads and quints of many of these cards. Of course I didn't show everything, so if there is a player with a last name that starts with M-Q, it's a good bet I have some available.
Overall, the card count reached almost 1,000, all of which were star players on some level. That’s about $.005 a card. One of my best value pick ups ever!

That binder is AWESOME
you trading the binder??!?
I am giving away the binder to a good home. Send me your address and it's yours.
Wouldn't mind get a set of those Murphy's in there. I think I might need a few of them for the player PC.
