Fresh From The Market: 2013 Topps Blasters

Using my CIA operative instincts, I followed a hunch and stopped by Walmart today at lunch.  I could sense something exciting in the air, and- wa-la! 2013 Topps cards were being stocked by the retail rep.

There were some retail boxes, blaster boxes, hanger packs and single packs (no rack packs at that time).  When I saw the types of manu-patches that were included in blasters, it was an easy decision on which format to buy.  I picked up a couple of blasters, (which will be fun to explain to the lovely wife later today), and here are some of the spoils:

These patch cards of famous Topps rookie cards are the bomb!  I'm definately going to want more of these suckers.

I guess I should have started with the base cards and worked my way up, but I am very excited about the patch cards.   With that said, here are some base cards:

An Adrian Beltre in my first pack!  That's got to be a good sign!

I really like the design on 2013.  It's understated and tasteful, with a touch of whimsy.  I just made that up, and don't know what I'm talking about.  But I do like the design.

I only got a few parallel cards, and none of the Camoflage or Pink ones that have been previewed.  These emerald cards are really pretty though.  Since I bought these at Walmart, there were some of the standard blue parallels that always come with their blasters.  I didn't take any pictures, but I wish I had taken one of the Jose Reyes card, simply because it shows him in Blue Jays uniform.

Here are a few of what I guess are the standard insert series.  These are ok, nothing that got me too excited.

I do like the 1972 minis.  They're the same size as the 1987 Minis from 2012.
Finally, I hit one of the die cut cards.  These are very similar to the die cut cards from recent Chrome and Bowman Chrome sets, but nice all the same.

Thanks Nap,
You're the first post I've seen about retail hitting early. I was just thinking to myself this morning that I hadn't seen or heard of any 2013 coming out early. Good to know Topps is still true to form. I'm holding out till Wednesday for my Jumbo box though. Those patch cards look really cool.

I think you got my cards!
McCovey and Henderson are my two biggest player collections. You also scored a sweet parallel of the Giants final out of the World Series. If any of these are for trade, drop me a note.

Hmmm, I like those manu cards more than the ones from the past few years at first glance. Those due cuts are cool!

I put this post up so quickly I didn't realize how many Harpers I hit. It was just two blasters, but I guess I did get my fair share. I probably won't get any more the rest of the year.

Adam, happy to send you the emerald Giants card! I'm pretty smitten with the patch cards though.
